Anke Engelke packs aid packages
Launching the malaria campaign on Africa Malaria Day
The German actress and comedian, Anke Engelke, is supporting the fight against malaria in Africa. “Every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria“, says Anke Engelke, “I want to draw attention to this tragedy and encourage people to help.“ As ambassador for the German medical aid organisation, action medeor, she packs boxes of life-saving medicines on Africa Malaria Day in front of a backdrop of 100 mosquito nets on Potsdam Square, Berlin.

This event was the starting signal for action medeor’s malaria campaign. The aim is to arouse awareness among the general public. “I only learnt through medeor that more than one million people die as a result of malaria every year“, says Anke Engelke. It doesn’t have to be like that because this illness is curable. “And it is so easy to help“, says Anke Engelke, “just 99 cents is enough to save a child with malaria.“

action medeor (I heal, I help) in Tönisvorst near Krefeld is the largest medical relief organisation in Europe today. medeor ensures that vital drugs reach the needy, even in remote areas of developing countries. medeor has committed itself to the battle against malaria, educating people about the risks, provides for the distribution of mosquito nets and the therapy for patients. The concept of the local production of drugs, such as the highly effective and affordable Artemisia in Tanzania is innovative.

Medeor: Fighting malaria

medeor is drawing attention to malaria with a Malaria Campaign.
In the spring of 2007, on the occasion of African Malaria Day, the German medical relief organisation, action medeor, launched its malaria campaign, which will span several years and is intended to draw the public’s attention to the plight caused by malaria in Africa: every 30 seconds an African child dies as a result of malaria.
